AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Widespread low clouds and fog has been stubborn to burn off in the Austin Metro and our eastern counties. Slowly, we'll see increasing sunshine this afternoon, but our cloudy start likely means highs don't get out of the 60s for the Austin Metro today, but 70s will be more widespread in the Hill Country thanks to the additional sun.Highs this afternoonLow clouds and fog build back in overnight into Friday morning followed by increasing afternoon sunshine. Temperatures should be much warmer on Friday ahead of the first of two cold fronts. I expect highs in the upper 70s as a south-southwesterly wind Friday combines with more afternoon sunshine.Friday night's cold front should knock us down in the low 70s this weekend.Highs next few daysWe're watching the potential for a few showers on Sunday and Monday as a storm system to our north barely clips Central Texas. Rain totals from this storm system are looking quite meager, with under 0.25" expected areawide at this time...Construction, demand creates challenges for students living in West Campus

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Picture this: A private pool, gym, music "jam" room, computer and print bar with Macs and PCs, a lounge with a jumbo TV and a café right in your own lobby.University of Texas sophomore and mechanical engineering major Amar Saini said he was promised all this when he signed to live at Rise West Campus, his first apartment. But his excitement was put on hold when move-in was delayed multiple times. "It didn’t come as a surprise because you could see the building at any time, and it was clearly nowhere near ready, but it was annoying because the initial email just stated that there would be some compensation, however no statement of when the building was projected to be done," Saini said. Saini said Rise gave residents a couple of options: Option one: The company provides a stipend of $50 a day and covers a hotel. The resident still has to pay the monthly cost of rent. Option two: The company provides $200 a day and rent is waived until move-in.Rise at We...Allegiant launching new nonstop from Austin to Oregon in May

3M’s major healthcare spin-off is staying in Minnesota — for now — under the new name Solventum, which represents the combination of the words “solving” and “momentum.”The independent company will span some 20,000 professionals in categories such as wound care, healthcare information technology, filtration and more, resulting in some $8.4 billion in sales in 2022. That qualifies the spin-off to become its own Fortune 500 company, a threshold that Fortune Magazine said was reached when companies reported at least $7.2 billion in revenue this year.Maplewood-based 3M’s healthcare spin-off, announced in summer 2022, has raised widespread speculation about whether the new company would seek tax and land incentives elsewhere or remain in Minnesota, which has established a medical and health technology network buoyed by major players like the University of Minnesota and the Mayo Clinic. In a written announcement, 3M said “solving” ...Superior Merchandise Company reopening in Troy
