Published Fri, 07 Feb 2025 18:04:56 GMT

BENNINGTON, N.Y. (News10)-An historic Bennington cemetery that suffered damage to 200 headstones in October has once again been struck by vandals. This time, police say they have identified the suspects. As News10’s Anya Tucker reports, the chief of police is offering a chance for restorative justice to the accused youths with an opportunity to help cleanup and repair the gravesites. Bennington Police Chief Paul Doucette, Jr. showed Anya the damage at the Morgan Street Cemetery, saying the vandals used a pole to push over the headstones. "Knocking them over. You can see where they have landed on top of the grass,” he told her. This is unfortunately not the first time his officers have responded to the cemetery for this kind of destruction. In October, approximately 200 headstones were toppled over and vandalized. Many of the stones mark Bennington, Vermont’s oldest gravesites- some belonging to children and veterans going back to the Revolutionary War era. After that act of ...

Published Fri, 07 Feb 2025 18:04:56 GMT

Dear Amy: My husband and I have been married for 19 years. His brother is an alcoholic, which is a common theme in his family. He has been unfaithful to his wife on numerous occasions. At a family event (about six years ago), he made sexual advances toward me.I told my husband that his brother makes me very uncomfortable and I do not want him around our kids with his level of drinking, but didn’t want to cause a huge family rift, as his wife had been put through so much already. We are the more successful/healthy of all the siblings and are perceived as snobby. We have kept our space for many years. We celebrate holidays without my in-laws, as they believe that we should just ignore these issues. My husband recently decided to attend a family gathering (solo) and brought his brand-new sports car (which cost six figures). His brother took the vehicle for a ride (drunk) without his permission. The brothers have not spoken since. My mother-in-law is aware of these issues and spends every holid...

How will Warriors-Lakers compare to Bay Area-vs.-Los Angeles playoff battles?

Published Fri, 07 Feb 2025 18:04:56 GMT

SAN FRANCISCO — Chants of “Beat L.A.!” will welcome the Los Angeles Lakers into the Chase Center tonight. It’s a rite of passage into their conference semifinal series with the Warriors and it’s another battle in the LA-vs.-SF, surf-vs.-turf war.In-state rivalries abound through other sports and other decades, sometimes en route to iconic moments.A championship is not an immediate reward for the victor of this seven-game series, unlike the last time Steph Curry’s Warriors played a series against a LeBron James-led team. That 2018 NBA Finals sweep was James’ final set of games with the Cleveland Cavaliers before he then fled to the Lakers. What is the best playoff memory pitting the Bay Area vs. Los Angeles? One ground rule: Play-in games do not count. That goes for the 1962 Giants tiebreaker win over the Dodgers for a World Series spot, and that goes for the Lakers’ 2021 play-in win over the Warriors for the No. 7 seed. This Warriors-Lakers series should be epic with Curry ...

“My partner has a spark of genius,” a club player told me. “I’ve seen him make many good plays. But he has ignition problems; the weak part of his game is the opening lead.”My friend said his partner was West in today’s deal and led the nine of clubs against four hearts.“I took the queen and ace,” he said, “and led a third club. Declarer won, took the ace of diamonds and ruffed his low diamond in dummy. He carefully cashed dummy’s ace of spades before leading a trump to his king. My partner took the ace and had to lead a diamond, and South ruffed, drew trumps and claimed.”WEAK HAND“I don’t know why partner didn’t lead his singleton spade when he had a weak hand and the ace of trumps as a fast re-entry. Then we beat the contract easily. I can get in to lead a second spade, and he scores his ten of trumps on a trump promotion.”West’s lead wasn’t sparkling — nor was East’s ...
