Packers relying on inexperienced cornerbacks to step up after Douglas’ departure

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Green Bay Packers rookie cornerback Carrington Valentine often looked to veteran Rasul Douglas for advice as the seventh-round draft pick from Kentucky attempted to make a successful transition to the NFL.Valentine now has the biggest opportunity of his young career but no longer has Douglas around to guide him.The trade of Douglas to the Buffalo Bills this week while 2021 first-round draft pick Eric Stokes remains on injured reserve leaves the Packers depending on some inexperienced cornerbacks such as Valentine and Corey Ballentine to work alongside Jaire Alexander and Keisean Nixon.“Rasul was a mentor to me,” Valentine said. “I sat next to him every day. I’m sad to see him go. I learned a lot from him. I appreciate everything. He didn’t have to do that. But with the opportunity, just got to make the most of it.”Green Bay’s cornerback issues come at an inconvenient time. The Packers (2-5) have lost four straight and face the exceptional receiving tandem of Co...‘Free Solo’ filmmakers dive into narrative with thrilling swim drama ‘Nyad’

Filmmakers Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin have given audiences thrilling and sometimes terrifying front-row seats to incredible feats of human ambition in their documentary work. From Alex Honnold’s white-knuckle climb up Yosemite’s El Capitan in the Oscar-winning “ Free Solo ” to the claustrophobic blackness awaiting the cave divers who rescued the trapped soccer team in Northern Thailand in “ The Rescue,” their understanding of the personalities capable of such impossible accomplishments is almost unparalleled in filmed storytelling. It is not surprising, then, that they’d be interested and uniquely equipped to tell the story of Diana Nyad and her treacherous 110-mile (177-kilometer) swim from Cuba to Key West at age 64 for their first narrative film, “ Nyad,” now available to watch on Netflix. But there would be at least one big difference in bringing “Nyad” to life: actors.“In nonfiction, you observe. You’re like the closest listener,” Vasarhelyi told The Associated Pres...Browns’ Watson back from shoulder injury to face Cardinals still keeping their QB plans secretive

CLEVELAND (AP) — Through sheer luck, some questionable officiating and a strong defense, the Cleveland Browns have somehow survived without their franchise quarterback for the past month. The Arizona Cardinals haven’t been nearly as fortunate. As the teams get ready to play Sunday, there are few definitive answers about the quarterback situations for the Cardinals (1-7) or Browns (4-3).Arizona is awaiting Kyler Murray’s return from a knee injury that prematurely ended his 2022 season while Cleveland hopes that Deshaun Watson’s sore shoulder won’t turn a promising season into another painful one.On Friday, Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said Watson will make just his second start in five weeks. The 28-year-old looked stronger and more confident while practicing three straight days. He and the Browns think he’s ready.“He had a really good Wednesday, really good Thursday, really good Friday,” Stefanski said. “He’s comfortable, and he looks good.”Only one...Meet Ru, Castle Rock Middle School's new therapy dog

LEWISTON, Maine (AP) — President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden added a bouquet of white flowers Friday to a makeshift memorial outside Schemengees Bar and Grille, one of the scenes of the state’s deadliest mass shooting. They stood for a moment of silence before bending over to hug bar owner Kathy Lebel. Eight people died there in the Oct. 25 massacre, along with seven at the nearby Just-In-Time Recreation bowling alley. Three others died at hospitals.Biden came to Lewiston to do what presidents do in these moments of horror and grief; lend comfort to the families of the victims and to show support for a reeling community. But it’s a type of trip that has become all too familiar, despite a bipartisan gun safety law passed last year after another mass shooting, and despite a series of executive orders by the president meant to stop gun violence.—WATCH: President Biden and others deliver remarks in Lewiston, Maine as community continues to heal from ma...Latest news
